dairy girl’s in love

I can admit it. I have a white food fetish. I’ve actually made this confession before, when I gleefully created my first homemade batch of decadently rich ricotta cheeseSo I’m excited to share a new discovery that has added a little more happiness to my life. It’s cottage cheese. Wait–hear me out. Because even if you’re not a big fan, this cottage cheese may change your mind.

Nancy’s Cottage Cheese

Cottage cheese is the ultimate dairy food for me. When I first saw Nancy’s at the market, I wasn’t just taken in by the whimsical packaging, I was intrigued by the promise that it was made the old-fashioned way. So I bought it and now I’m hooked. This cottage cheese was all I’d hoped for and more. Ridiculously creamy, with luscious curds–I checked the label more than once to make sure it was low fat. But the best thing about the taste was its tanginess. It has the character of the dairy I remember from my childhood.

And there’s more good news. Nancy’s products, from the Springfield Creamery of Eugene, Oregon, are all made in the most responsible way. They source their milk from small family farms and always test to be sure there are no antibiotics or hormones, synthetic or otherwise, used. The rennetless (vegetarians take note) cottage cheese, organic or natural, has live probiotics and cultures that offer a myriad of health benefits, including improving calcium absorption and lactose intolerance.

Just in case you’re wondering (and I know you are), this is not a sponsored post–these are truly my own opinions. And I’m sharing them because this is exactly the kind of sustainable family business we should all support. Nancy’s has been around for over 50 years, but I guess their products are first making their way to the east coast. I found the cottage cheese and sour cream at Whole Foods and Fairway Market. They actually made a name for themselves with their yogurt, but I haven’t seen any in my markets yet–I’ll keep my eye out. Because if it’s anything like the cottage cheese, I know I’m gonna fall in love again. Look for their products–you’ll fall in love, too.

Okay, you asked for it, so here it is: Organic skim milk, organic cream, organic nonfat milk powder, L. acidophilus, B. bifidum, and 4 strains of lactic cultures, salt. If you’d like more background on the company, here’s the link to their website: http://www.nancysyogurt.com
      They’re the real deal!

Fantastic. Thank you so much. I don’t see anything in that list that I won’t eat. Very cool. Will check them out and see if my Wegmans carries this product.

      Thanks again 🙂
